HORSES at Camp Innisfree!
What does equestrian mean?
It describes anything having to do with horseback riding. So when you
see the words equestrian activities and Girl Scouts put together, you
know it means fun!
Every summer, hundreds of Girl Scouts just like you learn to ride and
care for horses with the equestrian activities at
Camp Innisfree.
“I’ve loved horses since I was five,” said
Sofia Proen, who is now 7 and a Brownie with GSMD. Sofia
attended her first Western riding class last summer and now says,
“It’s my favorite sport.” She said she wasn’t at all scared to get up
on a horse for the first time, even though the ride felt bumpy until
she got used to it.
Maybe you’ve never ridden a horse in your life, but you can learn like
Sofia did with the beginning classes offered this summer. If you’ve
ridden before but would like to improve your skills, there are camps
and classes for you, too. And older girls who are very experienced
equestrians can train to become program aides and help other Girl
Scouts feel more confident in the saddle.
Sofia is planning to come back to Camp Innisfree in June to
participate in Pony Tails, which is one of the many
equestrian programs and activities in the Camp Innisfree
catalog.
Speaking
of Innisfree...
Have you heard about the new Dining Hall opening at Innisfree this
June? This huge new facility will make your camping experience
more comfortable than ever! The Grand Opening ceremony takes
place on Saturday, June 9. Girls who register for camp this
summer will be the first to take advantage of this great new
amenity at Innisfree!
Stay
Safe!
If you’ve seen the news lately, you know there are a lot of dangers to
watch out for online or on the phone. Learn to protect yourself
against this constantly changing threat when you attend the
Hidden Dangers event on Wednesday, May 23 at the Allen Park
High School cafeteria (free to registered Girl Scouts). It’ll be
presented by GSMD, the Michigan State Police
and Internet Crimes Against Children Task
Force.
