It's crunch time for Girl Scout cookies

For those of us who buy excessive quantities of Girl Scout cookies, this is crunch time.

The annual Cookie Drop starts today. By the time the last tire leaves treadmarks in the snow Saturday, more than 1 million boxes of cookies will have been transferred from warehouse docks and trailer trucks in Wayne and Oakland counties.

It's an absurdly efficient ballet in which volunteers from local troops line up in cars to receive their girls' allotment. Before today is over, cookie booths will spring up across the area.

To find a box of cookies near you, go to http://gsofmd.org/.
