Equestrian Center Programs Individual and Troop/Group programs are available for Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes and Seniors. The Equestrian Center is open Tuesday through Sunday during the school year and on Saturday during the summer. You do not need to camp to participate at the Equestrian Center. Riding lessons are available for individual Girl Scouts, without their troop. Classes are offered in the autumn, winter, spring and limited times during the summer. A six-week series of lessons include one management class and five riding classes. All classes are 1˝ hours long. Since every child will advance at their own pace, riders may need to take a course several times before progressing to the next level. There will be no refunds for missed classes. Classes For Individuals, Troops and Groups These focus on Western and English style riding lessons. An Equestrian Course Catalogue (featuring detailed course descriptions), as well as Individual or Troop/Group Application forms, may be downloaded at left. Courses marked with an asterisk are normally offered at least once a year to individual participants. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. We recommend that you submit your application at least four weeks before your requested date. Please request a minimum of three alternate dates on your application. Troops and Groups may call the Equestrian Center Registrar before completing their application to learn what dates and times are currently available. However, dates at the Equestrian Center cannot be reserved on the phone. The entire program fee is required with your application. If your Troop wishes to horseback ride while camping at Camp Innisfree, please submit your Troop Camping Application (Form 063-cc) and Equestrian Troop/Group Application together. Minimum class size for Equestrian Center programs or lessons is five participants. Troops and Groups with less than five participants will need to “buddy-up” with another Troop/Group or sign up for programs as individual participants. Troops with more than five participants may not sign up for special “class days” designed for individuals. Instead, the Innisfree Equestrian Center Registrar is happy to schedule the same (or similar) class at a date and time just for your Troop or Group. Completing Your Application Your Troop/Group will be assigned a specific ride or program time, based on the dates that you requested. A confirmation packet will be mailed to you. It will contain your assigned date and time, a map to the Innisfree Equestrian Center, a roster for you to complete and a checklist of what participants need to bring. If your Troop or Group has any animal-related class, or will be riding, your packet will also include horseback riding permission slips. You must use and complete the GSMD Permission slips provided. Please Make a Note: The Equestrian Center staff determines riding lesson content, where the lesson will be held, and if your lesson will be inside or outside. Groups scheduled for riding either in the arena or ring must provide one adult to remain on the ground for every 8 riders. (No riding fee for this adult.) To ride on the trail, all participants must have at least 5 positive riding experience in control of the horse. Pony rides do not count as riding experiences. For safety, the minimum age of trail riders is 9 years of age. |
