A girl must be 5 years of age to be a member of Girl
Scouts, and our oldest girl members are 17 years old. Once a girl
graduates from high school or is 18 years of age, she registers as an
adult member.
How can I register my daughter in Girl Scouts?
During the fall of every year, flyers are sent home
through the school and information on how to sign your daughter up for
Girl Scouting can be obtained from community volunteers and staff
members. Please call the Council Office at (313) 870-2500 X2244 or
(800) 326-0309 X2244 for information about how to make a connection!
Volunteers and Staff work hard to place every girl. In
many cases, we don’t have enough adults to lead a troop. Contact
us to find out how you can help out!
How do I find a troop in my area?
Girl Scouts of Metro Detroit has many troops throughout
Wayne and Oakland County area. To find out if there is a troop in your
area, contact the Volunteer Resource Center at (800) 326-0309 X2244 or
(313) 870-2500 X2244.
Does my Girl Scout need a handbook and an awards
book?
We recommend having both books because they contain
many activities that girls will be participating in as troop/group
members, as well as great activities for girls to do at home, by
themselves, or with friends and family.
Do I have to buy a uniform for my Girl Scout ?
No, girls are not required to purchase a uniform.
Wearing the Girl Scout membership pin shows that you are a Girl Scout
member. However, girls can only display insignia (patches, badges) on
sashes or vests. When asked to represent Girl Scouting in public,
girls should be in uniform or dress for the occasion with something
that identifies them as a Girl Scout. Our Volunteer Resource Center
has a uniform recycling closet and will work with you to identify if
we might have a uniform to meet your needs.
