New Volunteer Training
The good and bad news is that we require training. We
don’t just hand over a bunch of girls and say “Go - have fun!” We
provide support so you can learn about the Girl Scout Program and our
policies and procedures. You wouldn’t expect a teacher to stand in
front of a group of students without preparing a lesson plan. (And
yes, even teachers have to take a modified training session before
beginning as leaders.)
The GSMD Board of Directors has adopted strong policies
on training. All volunteers must complete, in a timely manner, the
orientation and training required for the specific position they wish
to hold.
Each new leader and co-leader is required to attend
training before meeting with girls. Girl Scouting
requires all volunteers to be trained in order to facilitate the Girl
Scout program.
GSMD has a long history of providing quality Adult
Development opportunities. In order to continue to offer affordable
trainings to every adult volunteer in our jurisdiction, effective for
the 2007-2008 Girl Scout year we must institute a $5 materials fee for
our Basic Courses. However, when you attend class, you will receive a
$5 coupon to use at the GSMD Council Shop!
